What is Dyslexia and Dyscalculia?

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects how people read, spell, and process written language. It has nothing to do with intelligence—people with dyslexia often think in creative and insightful ways, but may find reading and writing more challenging than others.

Common signs include:

  • Difficulty with reading, especially out loud

  • Trouble spelling or sounding out words

  • Slower reading and writing speed

What is Dyscalculia?

Dyscalculia is a learning difference that makes it harder to understand numbers and math concepts. Like dyslexia, it’s not linked to intelligence. Many people with dyscalculia are great in other areas, but find numbers confusing or overwhelming.

Common signs include:

  • Struggling with basic math (like addition and subtraction)

  • Trouble remembering number facts or telling time

  • Anxiety around math tasks or math-heavy subjects
